Barry White - The Icon of 'Lurve'

A voice, once heard and never forgotten: the velvety smooth voice of Barry White belongs there. His celestial voice has the capacity to take his listener to an entirely different world filled with happiness and sheer bliss. Barry White chose 'fourth of July ', the most important day in the history of America, to bid fare well to his adoring fans and family- one expects no less from a man who is larger than life! Barry White died on a Friday morning at Cedars Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles. It was a great loss to music lovers all over the world and of course, to his loving family. That distinctive soul sound, that husky growl with the velvety chocolate edge has influenced many lives since the early 70s. He was nicknamed 'the Walrus of Love', though he would have liked to be called 'The Dove of Love'. He gave the world and his fans, 'LURVE' and he referred to women as 'ladies'! Music lovers everywhere remembers the icon of 'lurve'' on the fourth of July, the Anniversary of the day he left us.

Barry White was born in Galveston in Texas, on 12 September 1944. He played piano at the age of 11 and made records under his own name, 'Barry Lee', as a member of the group 'Up fronts'. He once said at an interview that Elvis Presley was his inspiration to follow a music career. Barry was behind bars for four months when he was growing up in South Park neighbourhood and he heard Elvis's 'Now or Never'and that song changed his life forever. He formed 'Love Unlimited' in 1969, with Diane, Glodean and her sister Linda- he later married Glodean. The unmistakable distinctive 'Love Unlimited Orchestra' was founded by Barry White for which he conducted and composed and his first International hit was the 'Love's theme', in1973. 'Walkin' in the Rain with the One I love, I am Gonna love You just a little more, Never never Gonna give you up, You see the trouble with me, Sho' you Right and Just the way You are' are few of the melodies that melted the hearts of millions, all over the world.

Barry has been 'held responsible', for the 70's population explosion in the US! When asked about this at an interview, Barry laughed and growled in that husky velvet voice, 'not me personally, but my music'! Marine experts claim that even sharks have succumbed to his music. He was a great success with the students at Oxford University, when he gave a lecture there in 2002 on the future of music. He regained his popularity in the 90s, with his powerful melody, 'Practice what you preach' and the album that accompanied. It is a well-known fact that Barry's music has changed the lives of many from all walks of life at trouble times- even married couples claim that Barry's music has saved their lives!

His concerts broke all records and the fans were treated to the most spectacular soul sound. He 'sang to his audience' at his concerts and the melodies like 'You are the First, The Last, My Everything, and Just the way You are', were given standing ovation and the response from the adoring fans broke all sound barriers. I feel honoured to have witnessed one such event in Sheffield, one that I would keep in a special corner in my heart and so will, all those who have been to one of his concerts! 'The Lurve God' is no more, but his husky growl, that velvet smooth soul sound, will live forever. He believed in the only subject on Planet Earth, 'Lurve'' and one hopes that 'Lurve' will save the world, as Barry believed.

Los Angeles Hotels - Tips on Choosing the Right Hotel For Your Trip to LA

Like every major metropolitan area, Los Angeles offers many options when it comes to lodging. But choosing a hotel in Los Angeles can be overwhelming because of the sheer number of hotels and the incredible variety of amenities and price. If you're planning a trip to L.A., here are some things to consider when selecting a Los Angeles hotel.

Location

Los Angeles is a sprawling metropolis made up of many distinct neighborhoods. Because of this, visitors should consider staying in a hotel that is near the destinations they wish to visit.

If you are coming to Los Angeles on vacation, make a list of the tourist attractions you plan to see and then look at where they are located on a map. This will give you a good idea of where you should look for hotels. If you plan to visit attractions that are all over the Los Angeles area, you should try to find a hotel in a central location such as Hollywood or West Hollywood. These neighborhoods are about 20 minutes (by car) from just about every part of Los Angeles and they have convenient access to freeways.

If you are planning a business trip to L.A., first determine where you'll be attending meetings or visiting with clients. Downtown Los Angeles is a frequent destination for business travelers, as the Convention Center and Financial District are located there. If this is the case for your trip, you'll find a wide selection of hotels in Downtown Los Angeles that are walking distance from your meeting place. Alternately, many business travelers choose to stay in a hotel near LAX airport, especially for one-day trips.

Amenities

Every hotel is different when it comes to the amenities it offers. When looking for a hotel in Los Angeles, it's important to consider who you'll be traveling with, how much time you'll be spending in your hotel and what level of comfort you prefer.

Because of L.A.'s warm year-round weather, many hotels in Los Angeles have swimming pools or jacuzzis on their property. If you want to soak in some sun while you're visiting, look for a hotel that has an outdoor pool. Many upscale Los Angeles hotels even offer poolside service so that you can order food or drinks while you lounge by the pool.

If you're traveling with children, look for a hotel that is family-friendly. This can mean everything from offering video game systems in the rooms to having large bathrooms that will accommodate your whole family. Additionally, many Los Angeles hotels offer suites that will provide parents and children with a little of their own privacy yet still giving parents the peace of mind of proximity to their kids. Parents will also want to look for hotels that are located in safe, well-lit neighborhoods.

Do you expect luxury when you travel? If so, you'll find many Los Angeles hotels that cater to your every desire with luxurious accommodations. From pampering spa services on the premises, to high-end toiletries and towels in the bathroom, to five-star hotel restaurants, there are many upscale hotels in L.A. that will provide the ultimate in service and amenities.

If you plan on bringing your dog to Los Angeles, you'll find quite a few hotels that allow pets. Some even have gourmet dog biscuits on hand or food and water dishes available for your room. Make sure to choose a hotel in a safe neighborhood that has plenty of streets to walk your dog. You might even find a hotel with a park nearby where you can bring your dog to play.

Need to stay connected while you're visiting Los Angeles? If you plan to touch base with the office or simply like to have internet access while on vacation, look for a hotel that offers free hi-speed or wireless internet access. Some hotels offer free internet in your room, while others only offer it in the lobby or common areas. If you expect to log on every day, try to avoid hotels that charge a daily fee for internet access, as this can add up quickly and become quite expensive.

Price

Many people choose hotels only based on price, but it's important to consider the value you're getting as well. For example, if you find a hotel that is centrally located near all of the attractions you want to visit, it's worth paying slightly more for it instead of staying in a cheaper hotel that is further away from everything. Since there are not a lot of cabs in Los Angeles and public transportation is spotty, staying in a hotel that is not centrally located will mean you'll need to rent a car, which may end up costing you more in the long run (versus staying in the more expensive, centrally-located hotel).

If your trip to Los Angeles will comprise your one big vacation this year, you won't want to deal with the headaches that can come from staying in a cheap hotel. You want to relax and enjoy your vacation, so there's nothing wrong with spending a little more to have a better experience. It's okay to splurge a little on a nice hotel every once in a while!

Finally, if you don't plan on spending a lot of time in your hotel room, are adventurous or are traveling on a really tight budget, consider staying in a Los Angeles hostel. Known for their dorm-like rooms, shared bathrooms and communal atmosphere, hostels are an affordable alternative to hotels for budget-conscious travelers. You'll find hostels all over the Los Angeles area, with many located near popular tourist attractions in the heart of Hollywood.

Viral Video Episode 2 - Working With Children

There's a famous old Hollywood saying "Never work with children or animals"

Children can be a directors nightmare.

They can be unpredictable, outrageous, crazy, volatile, demanding, cute, funny and wild... just to name a few traits!

But it's exactly these traits that can keep viewers glued to the screen watching a particular video and more importantly...

Have them pass your video onto their friends, their family and all the contacts on their email lists (the holy grail ;). Cute or funny kids we all want to share as another piece of good news.

Here's another script from a recent online production on viral video using the actions of cute and funny kids at the core.

Introduction by Frank, kneeling on the floor with the kids.

Stands as he starts to talk:

Frank

"There is an old saying in Hollywood... never work with children or animals

The lack of control and unpredictability of children could blow budgets out of the water and make directors insane. Yet, it's that same unpredictability that can make a internet video go viral"

Cut to scenes of cute children with voice over from Frank:

Frank

"well... kids can be just plain cute" (Emily in a pram)

"Kida can be cute even doing simple things like running around.... And around.... And around..." James running around the mat.

"Making statements!" James in driveway calling out "Even if those statements only make sense to the child..."

"or running... around... and around... And...."

Cut back to Frank

Frank

Sinister music, dark background, Frank lit from below.

"What's slightly disturbing is that otherwise normal adults find it funny when"

Cut to scene of Emily hitting James over the head with bat

"children hurt other children"

Cut to scene of Emily hitting Greg with bat

"children hurt adults"

Cut to scene of James running into wall or jumping off the roof

"children... hurt themselves"

Back to Frank in the studio

    Frank

"Am I condoning the exploitation of children? Certainly not... but, it doesn't hurt to have a video camera around when your kids are just being kids" *wink*

Concludes with Emily approaching Frank. Frank tries to shoo her away.

Emily punches him in the groin, James kicks him in the shin and Frank goes down.

Kids jump on top of him... Greg comes in with his familiar "oops"

End of script.

How simple is that? Letting kids be just kids. Kids being funny, kids being cute and kids being a little bit naughty.

Grand Theft Auto (GTAIV) on PS3

Grand Theft Auto IV (GTAIV) on PS3 is a game with an amazing and nonlinear storyline, a game with a great protagonist who you can't help but like, and a game that boasts a large selection of online multiplayer features in addition to its lengthy story mode. Of course, it is not without some flaws, but GTAIV is undoubtedly the best Grand Theft Auto yet.

The Grand Theft Auto IV on PS3 story starts with Niko Bellic stepping off a boat in Liberty City, which is modeled after New York City. Right away, you get the sense that Rockstar North's latest GTA offering is something very special. Yes, this is another Grand Theft Auto game in which you'll probably spend most of your time stealing cars and gunning down cops and criminals, but it's so much more than that. You will find that Niko decides to help out Roman with his rundown cab stand and keep thugs off his back until he can figure out how to make money and connections in Liberty City. You also get to discover the real reasons that Niko left his homeland.

So begins Grand Theft Auto IV, the newest - and easily the best - entry in the wildly popular GTA series. The game manages to take the tried-and-true already successful game experience , which involves taking missions to earn cash and climb the corporate ladder of a criminal operation or sightseeing in Liberty City, and turns it into something that feels completely new and updated. Some even claim that it a gaming masterpiece that is a picture-perfect snapshot of the underworld of today's big cities

When the pedestrians, cars and buildings became repetitive in previous GTA releases it was always tempting to get bored, steal a cop car and end up in your own North Hollywood shootout. There are many more times as many distractions in GTA IV, including working cell phones, televisions that can flip channels and the Liberty City version of the Internet. This time, the mundane is as interesting as the some of the unsavory elements of the game.

But that's not to say it's empty of meaning. GTA IV is a crass cultural commentary that mocks the American media's obsession with sex and violence and money. This is the reason why so many people in the media and government are bothered by the Grand Theft Auto games. For example, the Chicago Transit Authority pulled 385 ads for the game from its subways, but the same organization has no problem letting violent films advertise in the same places.) If these people actually played GTA IV, maybe they would realize that not all videogames are for kids and ultimately get the joke - that the game also rejects the violence, sexism, and consumerism it appears to embrace. It is worth mentioning that Grand Theft Auto IV is definitely for a mature audience.

In case you haven't guessed already, Grand Theft Auto IV on PS3 is a game that you will have to play to appreciate it. The single-player game, which you can still play long after you complete the story, is the series' best by far, and the multiplayer features are good enough that you'll likely have no problem finding people to play with you for many months into the future. The minor flaws that you'll experience are no different than those in previous GTA games, and they're greatly outnumbered by the new features that will amaze you anytime just when you think you have already seen everything that the game has to offer.

You can avoid the long lines waiting to buy Grand Theft AutoIV (4) on PS3. Besides, it is sure to sell out at your local store. Why waste your time? Where to find the best deals on Grand Theft Auto?

Secrets About Online Marketing Surveys

One of the best ways for those in online marketing to find out about current demands of the market and what your customers or potential customers are looking for is through a well designed survey. Forget the once popular method of one question surveys. Those types of surveys are not going to help you really understand your customer base. Keep in mind at all times that the purpose of the survey is to get a better understanding of your customers and potential customers in a concise and effective manner.

Right now you need to put yourself in the shoes of your customer. Don't make the same mistake that many marketers do by thinking that if you just find out the most important reason behind the customer's search you are going to make a sale. Maybe the customer tells you the most important reason behind the search is to see if Yorkies are kid friendly. Simply telling them yes is not going to make a sale. What you need to do is understand the customer, learn about their fears and frustrations. What are their concerns and problems? You need to be able to address those issues, convincingly to make a sale. To do this you need a properly constructed survey.

What is the best way to survey your list? The best way to survey your list is to personally invite them. Pick up the phone and tell you them are conducting a survey and would like to email them the link for that survey. They can fill it out at their leisure. The survey is completely anonymous and shouldn't take them more then 5 or 10 minutes. Let them know the benefit the survey will provide them.

How many questions should be asked in a survey? Take the time to think about your questions. Choose your words carefully. Make sure you are using both closed ended and open ended questions. Use more closed ended questions then open ended so that your customers don't get bogged down answering questions and then get out of the survey. You aren't going to want to have more then 25 questions in your survey. About 75% of the questions should be closed ended questions.

How do you get customers to respond to requests for information? The best way to get people to take your survey is to offer them something for taking the time to fill out the survey. Yes it's only 5 or 10 minutes, but how likely are you to take that time out of your day just to help someone that wants you to continue to buy from them? Offer them a discount coupon on their next purchase, or you may consider paying them for taking the survey. But be sure to offer them something for their time and input if you want to increase the response rate. With those surveys in-hand your online marketing business is one step closer to success!
